Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then located multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.

An important representative said the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
